Frequently asked questions

Via the page “Rent touring bike” you get to the overview with our 3 offers. Select the appropriate bike size (no. 1-8) and pick-up and return dates for your desired offer and add the bike to the shopping cart. Repeat the process for multiple bikes. Then complete the booking by paying for your shopping cart.

You will need your height to define the bike size, pick-up date and location, return date and location and the desired number of panniers. No login is required for the booking, just a few details about yourself for identification and invoicing, see also our terms and conditions and privacy policy.

Yes, the minimum rental period is 3 days.

Cancellation is possible free of charge up to 2 weeks (14 days) before the start of the rental period. From two weeks (14 days) up to one week (7 days) before the start of the rental period, 50% of the rental price will be refunded. From 7 days before the start of the rental period, no money will be refunded. Changes of dates are considered as cancellation of the contract. In this case, a new booking must be made.

Yes, you can also take your bike abroad. Legal standards or other regulations must always be observed, our general terms and conditions apply.

Depending on the desired offer, you can pick-up and return the bike in Bern from our partner Ski+Velo-Center (Basic), but also at various SBB luggage counters throughout Switzerland (Flexible and Flexible+). Please note that you will need to show ID for pick-up in Bern.

Pick-up at the SBB luggage counter of your choice works in such a way that we send you the order documents with the corresponding order number in advance and you must present these at the counter on the day of collection during opening hours. You will receive your bike and 1 additional bag per bike (counts as 1 piece of luggage) with the number of panniers you require. Important: you must keep this bag for the return.

To return your luggage, go to the SBB luggage counter of your choice on the return date (not earlier or later) during opening hours and show the order documents with the corresponding order number that we have sent you in advance. We have printed out the transport labels and stowed them in the handlebar bag, although the counter often prints them out again itself. Make sure that you stow your maximum of 5 panniers in the bag (counts as 1 piece of luggage) and stow all rental accessories, e.g. light, charging cable, pump, lock, etc., back in the handlebar bag.

The agreed times with our partner Ski+Velo-Center apply for pick-up and return in Bern. In other words, Tuesday to Saturday between 09:00 and 16:00. For pick-up and return at the respective SBB luggage counters, the official opening hours at www.sbb.ch and what we have agreed with you in the booking process apply.

The bicycle provided by Pedalmondo must be returned complete as received and in perfect condition. The cleaning of the bicycle is included in the rental price.

Pedalmondo offers very high quality touring bikes of the “Tour de Suisse” brand. The only difference between the bikes is the frame size, S, M or L. You can find more information under Equipment.

Helmets can be hired for a one-off surcharge of CHF 15. The handlebar bag comes with a bike lock and key. There is also a hand pump on the back of the cup holder. Under the saddle you will find a repair kit with a spare inner tube, 3 tire levers and a multi-function tool (you will need this to set the correct saddle height with the Allen key).

Our bikes have a white front light permanently installed on the fork, including a front reflector, which you can charge with a removable battery unit if necessary. We provide you with the charging cable (micro USB) and power supply unit, but you should still take an additional power bank with you, for example. To switch on and off, press the button at the top for 2 seconds. Press the button briefly to switch from high to low power. Our bikes also have a battery-operated red rear light with reflector. Press the black button to switch it on and off.

Yes, the rental price includes up to 5 Ortlieb panniers (1 handlebar bag, 2 front bags, 2 rear bags). You can find more information under Equipment.

Our Ortlieb panniers have a so-called Quick-Lock System 2.1. The following video shows you in detail how you can attach the panniers to both the rear rack and the front “lowrider”:

The correct saddle height is important for your safety and comfort. When you pick up your bike in person in Bern, the staff at our partner Ski+Velo-Center will show you how to adjust the saddle correctly. Important: our bikes do not have a quick release for adjusting the saddle. Use the multi-function tool and the Allen key in the repair kit under the saddle. The following video shows you in detail what you need to pay attention to:

All our bikes have their own hand pump. It has two connections on each side of the tube. So if it doesn't fit - turn the tube. Our “Schwalbe Marathon Plus” tires have a so-called auto-valve, or AV for short. This means that you can inflate them not only with a hand pump, but also directly at a filling station with compressed air without an adapter. Unscrew the valve cap and place the pump head exactly on the valve. We recommend a tire pressure of around 4 to 4.5 bar.

Yes, our bikes all have 2 cup holders each.

The rental costs are calculated per day (24h) according to a degressive logic. This means that for a minimum rental period of 3 days the rental costs CHF 55 per day, from 14 days the rental costs CHF 29 per day. Those who rent the bike for longer benefit from better conditions.

We accept Twint, Mastercard, Visa and PostFinance for payment.

We do not require a deposit. Additional fees only apply if you opt for our Flexible or Flexible+ offers, as you will be charged the SBB transportation costs.

Yes, legal standards, including e.g. the Road Traffic Act, must be complied with. The most important basic rules in Switzerland (not exhaustive) include the following points:

  • According to the law, you must ride your bike on the right. However, it is strongly recommended that you keep a distance of 70-100 cm from the right-hand edge of the road and from safety lines, as there are many dangers lurking there: drains, leaves, potholes and cars that could drive up too close.
  • Avoid driving too close to parked cars, as careless people could open doors unexpectedly or step into the road between cars.
  • At traffic circles and when turning left, you should move into the middle of the lane.
  • Never stop next to a stationary truck or bus, as you could be in the driver's blind spot.
  • Signal every change of direction clearly with hand signals to warn other road users and allow them to adjust their speed. Always look back over your shoulder before turning.
  • If the weather conditions require it and from dusk to dawn, you must light your bike accordingly. If you are riding in the dark, be sure to increase your visibility with reflective tape or a high-visibility fluorescent vest.

Even though helmets are not compulsory in Switzerland, we recommend that you wear a bicycle helmet at all times. You can find references to this text and further information on the most important cycling rules in Switzerland here:

Make sure that the lock secures the frame and at least one wheel and is preferably attached to a fixed object such as a bicycle stand or a firmly anchored post. Try to park your bike in well-lit areas and in places with a lot of public traffic, if possible even inside a building, e.g. a hotel or youth hostel bike cellar, etc.

In the event of defects during the rental period, you can have the defect repaired by the nearest specialist bicycle dealer with our consent. The repair costs can be claimed from us against a receipt if the damage is due to material defects. If you have a flat tire on the road, you can use the repair kit under the saddle to try to change the inner tube of the bicycle tire yourself. This video shows you step by step how to proceed:

Accidents and falls resulting in material damage must always be reported to us. If persons are injured and/or property damage is caused to third parties or if a third party is involved as a possible (co-) perpetrator, the police must be contacted immediately and an accident report completed.

The bike is handed over by us in perfect condition. Nevertheless, you are obliged under our GTCs to check the bike for any defects. Check the functionality of the brakes and gears, the presence of front and rear lights and that there is sufficient air in the bicycle tires. Any defects, including those that only become apparent at a later date, must be reported to us immediately.
